I've recently upgraded to v2023, from R19.
Silicone Mac, OS 13.3.1

For as long as I've been using Cinema (R10) one of the best, most consistent aspects of the program, has been the way that it remembers the last place where a project file was last saved or opened, as too it would remember where renders were saved, etc.

Now, with 2023, I'm finding that is no longer the case.

For instance:

I'm working in a project, and render something out to a specific "render" folder.
If I then decide to "save as" a new version of the project, it will default to that render folder, instead of the project folder, where I previously had saved the current project.

With every single version before, the default behavior would have been that C4D would remember where I last saved a project.

Does this make sense?

I don't know whether this has something to do with a change to C4D, or is related to Ventura?

Thanks, for any advice possible.

I enjoy the forum's work, as I know that every question solved (fingers crossed, your question as well) will help others at one point. Having the solution or at least the discussion here might save some time.

Very much appreciated!
It's hardly a critical item, and I can certainly wait a formal response from Maxon support.

And when I have the chance, I may try some those troubleshooting suggestions, thanks.

Thanks for the feedback. Which allows me to address this.
To improve on many levels, Maxon-One meets close to the HQ once a year. Which was this week; this might have slowed down tech support response time. I hope you can see that such times will benefit everything in the long run, but yes, waiting for a reply is never a fun thing to do.

Yes, google stuff or going through other public options are not fun, as they often have a lot of noise with a lot of advice that wasn't tried for a while, if at all, when quoted.

Perhaps, investigating might help. One suggestion, set up a Child Render Setting, with a completely different output path, perhaps to a newly plugged in USB-stick. Now use the "save as" again. Does it point to the USB stick now? Whatever the outcome is, that might help to narrow the problem.

Typically trashing the Preferences and restarting help, but I rarely suggest this, as from my experience, it works one out of ten times. Not something that I would just suggest and see what happens. It also falls under the umbrella of best guess items. If you know me, I love having a project file or something to retrieve a clear solution from. I do not answer from memory, as things can always change. Besides, no one knows everything, leading me to do practical tests in 99% of cases, which has worked for me in the past 19 years mentoring 3D artists, and for 17 years here. It is more work, but it works in a better way.

Anyway, sorry for the delay with the support; I hope they can tell you more next week.

All the best

Thank you, for the rapid assistance. Before I posted here, I actually submitted this same question to Maxon Support. No response yet, however.

I'm still in the beginning stages of setting up, and learning 2023 (HUGE differences from R19...) but I did try and set up the basic prefs, how I have prior. I'm wondering whether I set something wrong. But I don't recall there ever being anything about file paths.
Are you aware of any hidden (C4D) settings, where I might at least check to see whether I have something toggled incorrectly?

Googling is a little tough, because most of what I seem to dig up is in relation to tokens.

I checked it here on my test Mac with 13.4 (beta) installed. I created a render folder and a project folder. Rendered and then used the Save for a new project file version of my project. It pointed instantly to the Project folder.

I tested it also on another M1 with 12.5; here, 2023 gives me no such problems.

I googled your description, just in case I'm unaware of some developments.

I checked my typical resources, nothing has shown up.

This leaves the next step, checking with tech Support.
