I would like C4D sending Midi signals to a DAW like Logic or Ableton. Midi notes should be triggered by object intersections (clones, particles, dynamics, etc..). The Midi note's pitch and its velocity, length, sustain may depend on the speed, position, order or size of 3d objects.

Although I managed to build a very basic test scene, I am struggling with various issues: Using python is tricky as C4D uses it own python that does not include libraries like rtmidi nor it is documented how to add such libraries to C4D. As a workaround I used an external OSC to MIDI bridge. Inside C4D, collision or intersection detection seems to work with some flaws by using the old bullet dynamics expresso node. Not sure if there is an equivalent for the new dynamics system or a way to recognize mesh intersections in general, independently form dynamics. I'm also not quite sure what’s the best way to trigger different Midi notes/velocity and other Midi controller parameters within C4D. It may need a xpresso setup using lists and an analyses of values like speed, size or object ID in order to translate it into various Midi notes and controller.

I've seen some older plugins that addressed this approach but they are not compatible with newer versions of C4D.

Any hints are highly welcome! Thank you!

Not sure if this post ended up in the right Topic category. "Site Issues" was the only available option to select. I guess Q&A would be more appropriate. But maybe the fact that it could not been selected makes it a Site Issue 😉

          Hi move-reactions,

As you noted, this is the site-issue forum. It is not at all a backdoor. I allowed it the first year, but the first post in this forum should be: " I have a subscription and problems accessing the forum." The forum is left open for those things; otherwise, no one could ask that question. So please only for that.

Midi, try to contact the author of this plug-in

Hopefully, you can use your subscription soon to access the full options here. Thank you.

          All the best.
