Fold My Design - baffling!

I have been trying to get the Fold My Design preset to work but i keep coming up with problems and i cannot find any info that might help explain fixes.
I have a box design that i want to replicate, and have tried using splines created and exported with Illustrator (v8) and i have also recreated the splines within C4d. One of the shapes (a rectangle with a shaped top edge to mirror the design) always shows up as Red and refuses to be part of the setup.
I have no idea how to make this shape acceptable. I have tried changing the spline type, changing the intermediate points , moving the start end points. Nothing seems to work.
The second issue is that almost all the panels are being split into oddly divided triangular facets. None of the tutorials i have watched seem to mention ways to address these issues.
Can anyone point me towards a solution for these?
