[help] with Normals
-
Hi there all ,
New here ,i found a model online and when i import some parts of it ...it looks like the normal is not correct or something ,is any idea how to fix this?
https://imgur.com/lfEQU9t
i upload the part here to see if you can find a solution https://www.mediafire.com/file/91rwgdokyqa0196/hood.rar/file
Thanks in advance and sorry for posting on a random category i wasnt getting any other option !

Hi tip-solution,
Thanks for your efforts with the files.
I only open files from Dropbox, Apple, Adobe, Wetransfer, or Google. No rar files! If possible, folders or C4D files and uncompressed. Sorry for the extra effort. If you can post only here, something is off with your account, which needs to be explored so that you can post in the appropriate forum.
For now, go to Attribute Manager> Mode> Modeling> Mesh-checking.
In the Attribute Manager> Mode> View Options you can get Normals as little pins.
All the best

Hello there Dr.Sassi
Thanks for the quick reply i upload it for you with wetranfer link uncompressed. I am not getting the mesh-checking option for some reason ,i have cinema4d R16 is that option available in that version?
Here is a link of the model to have a look to see if you can help me because all the model is like that ! https://we.tl/t-qJHYP9wVwUAll the best

Thanks for the file, tip solution.
Cinema 4D R16 was released in 2004, so I would have to re-animate some older computers to run it with the OS it should have. R18 had the Modeling check; my best guess is R16 had it. Just in case it didn't, here is the result of the check.
Bad polygons are certainly a suspect of wrong normals. Given the considerable number - I would have no idea how to fix this quickly.
If all the problems could be fixed, the polygons describing the round part would be very uneven. Instead of similar distances, they are small long triangles with wider ones in the mix. The small ones "set" the more complex edges, which makes you see it as a Phong problem, which it is practically - following the mesh. So that result is correct; the modeling is rather insufficient. The phone takes the Normal of a Polygon and interpolates it with its neighbors to create the illusion of smoothness. Small polygons in the mix don't support the larger neighbors here.
I have run a Remesh and a Volume option over it, but that was more to confirm than expecting usable results.
Sorry, there is no quick fix.

Dr.Sassi
Thank you i believe is made originally with CAD and then exported to obj file ,anyway thank you so much for trying !

You're very welcome, tip-solution.
Yes, it looks pretty much like it.
From CAD to a Polygon model is a step that is not often done well. If you can get the CAD model, check in your R16 what import options you have. There are also some tutorials on Cineversity about it.
But I can't tell more without more specific data.
