I use syntheyes for tracking however, the camera that is imported is a standard camera rather than a redshift camera. I do have the render engine set to Redshift. When I do covert the camera to redshift, it loses all the keyframes. What is the workaround for this?
      Thanks
      Chad

        Hi Chad,

I do not have your camera here, which would be preferable. So I have to share without knowing if that works in your case.

After importing the Solved Camera, please make a copy, convert the copy, and place it under the key-framed camera. Set the Position and Rotation to Zero while the Scale is one (=Reset Transform). For any camera work, use the new RS Camera. Check if the imported camera shows any offset.
That works as long as the track doesn't require Zoom. Suppose the camera has zoom animation that needs to be adopted via XPresso. Again, a project file with the camera would leave me here without guessing.

        As a side note:

The tracked footage provides the render settings if the footage was already treaded for lens distortion. Otherwise:

Follow the instructions for the lens workflow that you will find on the Syntheyes website. Without it, things might not work well. This is not a Cinema 4D requirement; perhaps you know it, but how can I know? The message above has little information about it.

Run a preview with a test object, as Russ Anderson does in his tutorials, to see if it slides. Or if adjustments for Depth of Field or Motion Blur, Noise/Grain etc. are needed.

An Alternative is to select the imported camera and, while selected, use the Add Animation Clip to the camera; this leaves the camera itself without keyframes but animated. Now convert it. If only PSR were animated, you could write the keyframes back. Some enjoy the copy-and-paste dance, but I love to have them safe in a clip.

        All the best

Thank you..I found the work around but it's kind of a hassle. I assume the c4d motion tracker would create a Redshift Camera but it doesn't either. I am not sure how the native camera is better than a simple tag. You cannot just drop a tag on anymore..is that correct. So if I motion track a scene...I still have to copy the camera settings to a redshift camera..is that correct? Thanks again.

            Hi Chad,

I would file a report/request if I hadn't requested this already. I will nudge in the next meeting, someone.

For now, I'm sorry, and yes, it should work as you suggest. There is no advantage to the Standard Camera.

What helps is, that artists need a feature make that clear to Maxon, otherwise I'm alone on my soap-box 😉
