Old Cineversity Tutorials to be ported here?
-
Are the tutorials from the old Cineversity site going to be ported here? For instance, I needed a refresh on 3D Object Tracking. A Google search turned up the 2016 series produced by Athanasios Pozantzis (which I'd referenced in the past) on the old site.
https://www.cineversity.com/vidplaytut/motion_tracking_object_tracking_inside_cinema_4d_introduction
The message on the old site saying "This legacy site and its tutorials will remain accessible for a limited transition period" concerns me a bit as searching for "Object Tracking" on this new site does not indicate that that 2016 series exists here.
Thank you.

Hi Shawn,
Sorry to have this uncertainty provided.
I have no data on what or when things happen.
I will mention your concern in the next meeting that has that as a topic, and I have a good feeling that Thanassis' material will be available or he will update it.
Perhaps an Ask The Trainer "Motion Tracking Special" would be a good idea. Let me check this, as it would allow me to interact directly and get perhaps more out of watching tutorials only. Sounds good?
My series on Youtube will stay there, but they are more compact.
I had a lot of training in motion tracking and use in my projects in the past 25 years, so I'm happy to support your projects in the Forum here; I hope that helps a little bit.
Cheers

@Dr-Sassi Thanks again for your quick response. To clarify, my concern isn't so much whether these specific 3D tracking tutorials will be ported over. My hope is that ALL of the old tutorials would be available on this new site (unless they're REALLY outdated).
I appreciate your offer to facilitate special training and forum interactions regarding 3D tracking. In this case I'd watched the 2016 series before and knew I could probably track down the guidance I'd need fairly quickly. That could be a little harder with new tutorials. I also like that the old ones are broken down into multiple chapters, making it easier to find the technique I need.
For instance, if I go to the new tutorials section, search for "3D Tracking" in the Category of Cineversity Tutorials for the Product Cinema 4D I get four results.
https://cineversity.maxon.net/en/results?term=3d%20tracking&filter=All&category=Cineversity-Tutorials&product=Cinema-4D
None seem to be a nuts and bolts tutorial devoted solely to 3D tracking. The shortest is almost 4 hours long.
If I don't specify a Category I'm presented with 78 hits that are all over the map. The old site made it much easier to find the specific discipline I needed.
Best.

Thanks a lot, Shawn Marshall,
I hope I can get an easy-to-understand idea about how the tutorials will be handled next week during a meeting.
The four results are lists of series. But yes, that is a lot for the search term, while the 12-hour starting series about Character animation has zero camera tracking. Motion capture was mentioned somewhere in connection with Mixamo (my best guess).
Not fun, I agree. I hope to explore that a bit more and then see what I can share.I tried some terms and different filter settings. But I can see that the search terms are not very easy to narrow down. Whereby I'm not the one to ask, as it should work, especially when one starts in a specific field.
Anyway, sorry about that. If you like, I can move this thread to Site Issue, or you share your search experience there.
Also, if something is needed, I might have some ideas here.
My best wishes

Hi Dr. Sassi I have the same question, the old cineversity seems to have way more content than the new one, will the old videos be moved into an archive or something in the new website or will they be lost forever?
hopefully they stay as is very valuable information in a dry environment.thanks

Hi Yas,
Each time we update Cineversity, things get mixed up differently. We are surely learning based on that and listening to everyone's input, as everything changes constantly.
The new version is number four and the third update. We started this journey in 2006, and the numbers are often in the thousands (counting videos) and on the YouTube sites for the different products.
When I check modern content management options, the idea of "How Netflix" does it is often mentioned. Yet, I'm sure many will disagree.Things constantly change, and my 2-cents about this are that learning software is the highest investment in oneself: it requires time.
With this, I would love a system that serves and supports everyone here instead of making anyone work to search or dig out what is needed and wanted.Learning has changed over the past decades, and I would say even over the past few years. Shuffling thousands of tutorials around is one thing; making them accessible effortlessly is the target and much more difficult.
All I can say is that I explore and research a lot. We want to give everyone the best experience and the shortest learning time. Jumping between two places (or even more, with our YouTube content) is not my favorite idea.
We will find better and more centralized ways, and I'm happy to invest time, this I can promise. I hope that echoes at least your input, even I have no definitive answer right now.
I hope that is OK with you—the improvement work continues.
Thank you!
