MoSpline animation export as alembic issue
-
Hi there, I have animated a flower with a growing effect and on the steam sequence I have used a spline and MoSpline objects, all good up there but when I bake it as alembic the file is coming with red “a” icon which after some forums help I did found out the point count is changing throughout the animation so when I re-texture the alembic object the animation works ok but the materials change throughout the sequence. Does anyone know how I can set a consistent point count? Has anyone had a similar issue before? Any tip would be very appreciated!

Hi damage-request,
Thanks for moving to the new forum.
I have no idea, based on the images. Setups depend on so much more than the image can show. I (pretty much always) need an example file: no images, but thanks for the effort.
Anything else leads to guessing. The only thing I get from your text is that you use MoSpline. If that is the problem, check the Spline> Generation Mode.
https://help.maxon.net/c4d/2023/en-us/Default.htm#html/OMOSPLINE-MGMOSPLINEOBJECT_GROUP_SPLINE.html#MGMOSPLINEOBJECT_SPLINE_MODEAgain, this is a wild guess and not how it should work. If you have an example, please use DropBox to share it; thank you.
Is there any way to have all parts from the start but scaled down? Again guessing.
All the best

P.S.: Here is a little example. Please let me know what you like or dislike about it.

It is a purely Alembic inside of a Cinema 4D file..

Hi Sassi Thanks a lot for your reply and the file very handy. I did try to share a couple of GIFs showing the issue I'm facing but was not possible. just a quick recap. I'm animating a flowers growing effect around a frame with a wider varity and I have three flower which blooming animation was build using splines and MoSplines and when I bake them as alembic into a single object I get the file but it is coming with a red "a" icon on the left and after re-appliying the textures the mesh animation works ok but the materials seems to dont work on the polygon selection so at the start of the animation the mesh looks white and just until the end of the sequence the materials show up. Digging around seems like The red "a" in the alembic means the point count is changing throughout the animation. This means in some frames, new points are appearing or disappearing. I have upload the file here with one of the flowers that present the issue:

Hi damage-request,
I have, in the last five hours, tested this in detail. I have no real plan for how to solve this. The file seems to be a connection with no ideas about priorities. It is all over the place; while having a few hundred objects in the game.
The Alembic file has and has no UV data; It depends. I have done a lot of export cycles, and the main idea I get is if I use a certain amount of frames while having built the frame-by-frame scene, then stop ten frames before the last frame and leave it there; An export via Alembic works. Then without doing anything, it doesn't. This here works.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/7kub6als9mykrk4/CV4_2023_drs_22_EXag_11.zip?dl=0Nothing works if I do anything else, e.g., disable the SDS (edit: while leaving SDS selected./edit).
I can disable the setup already by having some objects selected, which should have any influence usually. Thanks for the google link. One request, if possible, please zip file. Thank you.
Perhaps get a second opinion about this from tech support.

Hi Dr Sassi,
Thank you very much for taking the time and looking into this. This is the best result so far. I know the file was not made in the most optimal way but for the main scene I'm collecting the work of some freelances and I just try to make it work before I decide to make it from scratch again.
Again thanks a lot for your help!

Hi damage-request,
You're very welcome.
My comments were only meant to suggest where to focus next. I'm not critiquing. Since I write in a forum, I know we have various experience levels here. Hence, I point out certain things, perhaps obvious to most artists. In the editor view, all might look fine because the refresh happens more than once. During rendering or export, there is only one time to "walk through" all the items in the scene. What is not available will be replaced by the material that might have been from a single or a few frames before; if nothing is there, then there is no reply. This is my current conclusion with this setup I got. To be clear, the results visible in the editor view are very nice.
It sounds like a more significant production, whereby I'm not clear about anything besides this scene you shared. So, my suggestion might be off, but how about Taiao from Insydium?
