Model scale discrepancy
-
I created an object (attached) to fit a very specific assembly. I exported it to STL for printing. When the printer opens the file (or I import the STL in C4D), it comes in with different dimensions. It's not a big difference, but as the fit requirements are very exact, a little is too much. Both are set to inch scale going out and coming in. Can't figure out what setting I'm missing. Any suggestions?

Hi MFVis,
Thanks for using Adobe-Cloud, and for the file.
The answer is quite simple, the model you have in the scene has some rotation in it.
The moment you export it, the new file has an Object Axis based on the World Coordinates (no rotation). Now import it via Merge into the scene, and that "changes" the result. But effectively, is is congruent.Example:
Take a new scene, call up a cube, then rotate that cube.
Export it as STL, then import it. Compare the size. Please check your model.
Select a few polygons, then use Select Connected, then U~I to invert the selection. For a single-body STL, there should be nothing selected. But there is something selected. Then check as well via Attribute Manager> Mode> Modeling> mesh Check.
My best wishes for your project.

@MFVis - Ah! Of course. I thought it might be a simple oversight - usually is. Thank you!

Will our CIneversity stats convey over from the previous site eventually. i.e. number of postings, etc.
-
You're very welcome, MFVis,
I'm glad I was able to clear that. I'm sure the next stop at the pipeline will check it again.
The stats from the old and the even older forum are not transferred. Sorry. I certainly had asked for it, even 12 years ago when we moved the first time. It would be ~20K of posts for me alone in Cineversity. I hope that sounds not like bragging, but for me, that number stands for a large group of artists I had the pleasure to connect with; Truly an honor.
Anyway, thanks to everyone visiting the previous forum so frequently, it stays readable for now.
My best wishes

Zero reputation is discouraging...

Hi MFVIis,
I had asked to take all that rating nonsense out. Sorry about this.
My take on it, I care for everyone in the same way, studio bosses or freelance artists who are just starting out. Please ignore this rating stuff.
So, please accept my apology. I hope this stuff vanishes TODAY.
Cheers

P.S.: Our fantastic IT team has already switched it off.
If you see anything of this stuff, please clear your cache. At least, that is what they tell me when I can't see any change.Thank you for your perspective on that. I hope that helps other artists to feel more comfortable as well.
