Mesh light does not work for an object

Hi everyone. I have the latest version of Cinema 4D with Redshift and I cant get the mesh lighting to work. Trying to get light to emit from an object. I get a polygon and then create an area light and then change that t mesh and then drag the name of the object into the little window, but nothing happens. Im stuck as to why it doesn't work! thank for help!
