    Controling how the Array Lays out an Object

      Hi,

      I'm very new to cinema 4d and modeling in general.

      I have an object I'd like to have on 4 sides of a tube and I thought using the array tool would be a simple way to duplicate the object and have it evenly spaced.

      But alas I ran into problems.

      How can I control how the array tool decides to create the array?

      I want to create the fins on a rocket to have 4 fins around the tube. Instead I get the fins laid out in a completely different way.

        It can be done with the Array, but I suggest the Cloner.
        Exploring might take a little longer, but the time invested pays off!

        Here is an image of the parameter that turns it into an "Array", but click on the Plane Parameters, and the orientation will change.

          Thanks Dr. Sassi! I will explore the cloner tool once I have C4D! I forgot to mention I'm in C4D Lite.

          I may not have been going the right direction but I also spent time reading up on the axis and trying out the transform>axis for each of the objects (array, extrude, and spline).

          Playing with the various axis I was able to get it worked out. I'm still playing with it to better understand the role of the axis with the array works.

            When you change the Position or Rotation parameter of the Null, then nothing happens.
            The result changes if you go to the figure and change the Position or Rotation parameter.

            The idea is that the Array takes the "Child" object to its own Position and Rotation. Otherwise, it might get very complicated. If you like to learn the Array, that is one thing to keep in mind, as otherwise, you might come to different conclusions.

            In the CLoner, this is similar but changeable. Here, the entry Attribute Manager> Object> Reset Coordinates, while checked, delivers the same, but it is explored when it is unchecked. Another reason to use it. The Cloner object was introduced in 2006, while the Array is older.

            As you mentioned, each object has some "ideas" about how things must be set up: Extrude, Spline, and especially Lathe. It takes some exploration effort to get there; you are right!
