Local scale of faces
-
Hi,
I'm trying to scale in one axis a set of polygons on their own axis. I used something similar in 3ds max where you can change the transform axis and transform individually or as a group. Is there something similar in C4d?
Thanks

Hi emotion-package,
If you like to scale all selected polygons individually, while I don't know your setup, perhaps try the
Main Menu> Mesh> Move> Normal Transform Tools: Normal ScaleA non-uniform Scale is not given with the Normal Scale.
If you have a single polygon or a single Polygon Group, try this:
Scale Tool and Explore the options in the Attribute Manager.
Sorry to be short here, but the Manual has a complete list of options:
https://help.maxon.net/c4d/2024/en-us/Default.htm#html/TOOLSCALE-MDATA_AXIS_GROUP.html#MDATA_AXIS_MODEIf you have selected some Polygons, hold down Shift and choose Point Mode
When you choose now the Scale Tool, you will see in the Attribute Manager options to change the Axis:
Position and Orientation: leave the Retain Axis off to keep the Axis.
Is scaling the polygons properly? I assume not always, as the points ignore the polygon normal. But I wanted to share that.Is that close to what you like to have?
If not, please feel always free to submit what you need; I will support this request as much as I can:

Thank you for considering. All the best

Hi Dr Sassi,
Thanks for your message. I tried the Normal scale, but it didn't do what I wanted. Although I tried to change the settings for the scale tool, I found the combination worked for this specific case. After I did a quick inset on different polygons, I changed the scale tool settings to the Orientation from Axis to Normal and ticked the Along Normal box. Same as Per-Object Transform. Now, all the polygons scale on their centre point. -
Sounds great, thanks for the reply, emotion-package.
My best wishes for your project!
