Basic geometry question. I am try to boole out a shape, but when I add a suddivision it creates a hole.
When I add lines to help with the geometry I keep getting the hole, not the part I want cut out.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong guys?

          Hi earth-video

Please share the file. The geometry will be below 1MB. I can then share a file back that works and share some thoughts.

From the images, I can only guess, which is not a good idea, as I have to make assumptions.
Like: do you Boole a cube from another and then add an SDS, while leaving it on N-Gons? N-Gons and SDS rarely work well together.

Image-based: Why not "Slide" the neighbor-edge to get close to the intended Cut-out, add a loop in the middle of the small side to get that edge as well, then delete the polygons where the Cut-out should be, and create a few new polygons, then add supporting edges. Check that no N-Gons are left and explore the SDS again.
          (Attribute Manager> Mode> Modeling> Mesh Check)

          All the best

              Hi earth-video,

              Thanks for the file.

The supporting edge is an old and good technique, but sometimes, the SDS Weight is faster and easier to use:
              https://help.maxon.net/c4d/2026/en-us/Default.htm#html/OSDS.html#weight
              perhaps also here
              https://help.maxon.net/c4d/2026/en-us/Default.htm#html/TSDS.html

To build the Arm of the Glasses, I took just the outside of the frame (Split) and welded a lot of points first. With that, I extruded it and added the details. To keep the polygon count of the main object low is always my target. Like in Illustrator, the more points are given for a specific area, the less power each point has. However, at the same time, it becomes increasingly difficult to manage.

The functions, options, or tools I use are as follows: Extrude, Inset (extrude Inner), Weld, Slide, Dissolve, and the Knife tool. Those are essentials for me.

              Here is your file back.

Please let me know if you have any questions. I'm happy to look into it.

              Cheers
