Select groups of clones to apply different materials

Hello
I have a simple grid of planes in a cloner, and I want to apply different materials to groups of them. Is there a way to work with fields to select, for example, the clones inside a box field, and apply a specific material just to those? And then do the same to another box field? I'm trying to avoid breaking my cloner setup
