Interface Icons Have Moved?
-
I worked up a set of interface icons that restore many icons for things I use all the time, such as "Frame Selected," Navigation modes, etc. They were easily dropped into the appropriate folder from v.2022 on, even in 2024. But I just updated it to 2024.3.2, and, YIKES, that entire folder structure is gone! The familiar icons are still in the interface (What few still exist), but the tif file is nowhere to be found. I searched with every variation of terms I could think of, to no avail. Where'd the icon files go?

Hi VR Theatre,
I hear your Yikes, and it feels familiar to me. I have argued for a long time that changes should only happen when they are urgently required, based on new tools or functions. I think many people have a ringing in their ears from my requests.
Yes, the TIF file has been moved as well, and I have no idea if I will get in trouble for telling you where it is. Typically, if it is not in the manual or website, I start to be careful with what I say here.
Perhaps tech support has an idea of how to answer that. Sorry, but that theme goes too far into the application's gearbox, and I have no idea how it would respond to changes in all the OSs available.
https://www.maxon.net/en/support-centerI will continue to keep things calm in the GUI space, but I'm just one voice in many.
Thanks for sharing your impressions, and keep the tone super civil; that is highly appreciated! Thank you.
All the best

The underlying problem is beyond understanding. Most of these functions have been around for decades and have always had assigned icons. But their icons have been missing for YEARS. This seems basic to having a user-friendly GUI, and everyone has realized this. The fix seems to be very easy. Does Maxon need someone to make new icons? I will volunteer, and I won't charge any more than I think they are worth.

Hi VR Theater,
We must look like a failing circus to you ;-), but thank you for offering help, it is very much appreciated.
Any change of the interface is discussed widely and in detail among departments, and every one of the great and many alfa or beta testers can share input about it. Everything is acknowledged. It is a process Maxon takes seriously.
As usual, there is no one size fits all, and any input on that should be done in the "Share Your Idea" here:

Thanks for taking the time; I would love to see your contribution there: Your voice counts!
This is the place to go and the fastest connection inside of Maxon. This forum is for Q&A, which I have tried to keep on course in a friendly way for nearly 18 years. Do I believe that everything is just perfect? With each update, I think the answer is that things can be improved. It is a clear indicator that no one thinks about freezing the apps' state and going home.
My best wishes.
