I followed this tutorial to rotate vehicle wheels automatically. Works well. However, when I reverse the wheel direction, the wheel axis changes, which can be seen in the animation. as you can see on this example. Any idea how to solve this?

Here's a short video of the problem.

        Hi recipe-union.

The quick tip works in one direction, using the Tracer's length, which means any forward or backward motion change will result in the same rotation direction.

If you have only a few of those, it might already be too much to start each time with a new Tracer and adjust the Rotation to match the start position, but possible.
        .

How can you get there anyway?

Use the Align to spline to set the wheel's motion and orientation (Tangent).
Then, use the Cappucino (Shift+C, and type the name in) to record position and Rotation.
You might need to add a key on Frame Zero.

Then delete the Rotation track (Keyframes) for the axis that is rotating your wheel.

Disable the Align to Spline Tag (not delete)

Set up an XPresso that uses the Align To Spline> Position, and via Range mapper feed this into the Axis Ration of the wheel.
Since wheels do not change size typically, find the value that leads to a plausible rotation.

If the wheel changes, Noseman gives all the tips in the Quick Tip.

As a side note, there are no hidden URLs used here in the forum. I have asked IT to turn off the default option, and we please don't it manually, as it hides the URL, and people don't know where they end up when clicking on it. Thank you. (I have changed it in your post above. Who would click on a hidden URL with so much ransomware everywhere?

Thank you Dr. Sassi. I only have one vehicle to animate and only two wheels are visible to the camera, so I adjusted the wheels manually. I will try your procedure so I can get familiar with Cappucino, which I wasn't even aware of its existence!

            You're very welcome, recipe-union.

Capppucino is a baking tool for expressions, but also an option to record movement of an object into keyframes, while it is moved live by the artist—a powerful tool.

            Enjoy
