I am on C4D R25 - So I ran into this frustrating problem. I am trying to make a photorealistic 60fps animation of a flag, billowing in the wind.

I've set up a plane with sufficient subdivisions and a cloth tag, then I disabled all the built in cloth tag forces and set up my own wind forces. pinned all the necessary places, however, I cannot preview the animation at the correct FPS no matter what - the viewer plays back at a very slow fps no matter what I do. So i my only option is to render the whole thing out just to see how it actually plays... But this is not all, I can now see that in real time the animation is far too fast and i need to slow it down - I tried doing it using the time scale option in the project settings, and it is not working. Nomatter what setting I put there it does not affect the preview or the render. Finally all the help files Maxon provides talk about values from 0-1 however the default setting there is 100% and I have no idea how to actually use it or whether it is working at all...

      Please help me!

        Hi Dfunk,

When the system can't reproduce the frames you like to see, you need to cache the simulation or use the point cache.

There is another option to set All Frames to none. It is the little icon in the timeline with the A and some rectangles under it.
        https://help.maxon.net/c4d/2023/en-us/Default.htm#html/10643.html#PLUGIN_CMD_12441

Another way is to export the flag to Alembic and merge it into a new scene. The Alembic file offers a Time Adjustment

Since slower motion requires more frames, you can also render the cached flag as a higher frame rate (e.g., 240) in the Render Settings; use an image sequence here. Loading it into Ae, for example, sets the frame rate for the sequence to 60 fps. Then it is slower.

If the complete duration should be the same, pick the best frame range and go from there.

The Time Scale works in 2023-1, but it will have no influence on chached items. I would need a project file to tell more.

        All the best

Thank you! It turns out that the cloth tag is not affected by the project time scale - the only way to go around is to use soft body instead... As for 2023-1 unfortunately I cannot use it - I am on a 2021 Intel imac, so the only redshift that I can use is 3.0.57 (any version after produces terrible artifacts due to some bug with AMD video cards used in the iMacs), and in turn it doesn't work with C4D2023... so I am stuck with R25... But no matter- I think i can make it work with the soft body tag instead of cloth...

            Hi Dfunk,

Thank you, yes Cloth in R25 is a different "engine", hence my hint with 2023-1.
I guess you have tested 2023-1, and the main obstacle is the rendering.
Using Alembic, you could animate everything in 2023-1 and render in R25.

Save your file, select your flag, and go to
Object Manager> Object> Bake as Alembic.

When the file appears in the Object Manager, disable the original Cloth.
Then select the Alembic Flag, and in the
            Attribute Manager> Speed and Offset.

I just tested it in r25.

Hello Dr. Sassi, Thanks for the tip. I've also been slowing sims down with Topaz Video Ai. I'm amazed at the new cloth sims in C4d.

                Thank you very much, leather-recipe,

Yes, there are post-production ways. Thanks for pointing this out.

As a side note: Back when Twixter (RevisionFX) was The way to go, the suggested use was that already slowed-down footage from the camera resulted in even better quality when "time-stretched" in post. Combining these two might be something to keep in mind.

                Thanks again!

                My best wishes
