Cinema4D Simulation halts on GPU option on a MacBook Pro M1 Max
-
Hi, I am on a Macbook Pro M1 Max, and learning new simulation options. When I create a cloth setup and try to run it on GPU option, my system freezes. I am using the latest version (2023.2.0) Any suggestions appretiated! It works fine on CPU option though. Thanks.

Hi Fluidmotion,
The system freezes for a moment, for longer, or even unrecoverable?
If short, please read about the limitations here:
The delay is given when the data needs to be compiled.
https://help.maxon.net/c4d/2023/en-us/Default.htm#html/Simulation.html#LimitationTypically the other way around is expected; the CPU is less attractive for more extensive simulations.
If the system freezes for too long, my first idea would be to check if Redshift has occupied all the space (wild guess here), so going to standard render to see if there is any difference.
The other point would be, can you cache the simulation, and will there be anything else, is needed to be explored by Tech Support?

(Please note that Monday is a Holiday where our HQ is, which might create a little bottleneck. Other Support teams are working around the globe.)If you can share a small file that creates the problem, I can test it here 9MBP M1 max 64GB Ram, only SSDs attached). Files, please, only via Dropbox, Google, Adobe, Wetransfer, and Apple could services. Thanks. Just in case the file is more significant than 1MB and won't be taken from the forum.
All the best

Ok, I've been paitent and I've waited for about 15-20 seconds for the first time. Then it worked like a charm. For the note, even after I restarted the app, it worked fine. A bit weird, but works perfectly fine. Thanks for the answer!

You're very welcome, Fluidmotion.
The simplified answer is, whatever is thrown at Redshift 3D, it will translate it to the best format internally and take it from there.
I'm glad it works for you.
Enjoy your weekend.
