Cryptomatte RS object id for vertex map
-
I am looking to add a cryptomatte for every material in a scene, but some of my materials have a vertex map to reveal a second material. Can I add a material ID for the material being revealed with the vertext map in the node editor?

Hi KJC-creates,
Not to my knowledge. I will check with Redshift directly. If there is anything, I will update the thread.

Hmm. Well I am wondering if there is another way to matte out the vertex material then. If not in a cryptomatte AOV, then what about some other object ID (or similar) that I can apply to the material that is revealed?

Hi KJC,
I have asked, and there is currently no way with Cryptomatte.
If all Vertex maps have the same name (yes, that is a significant limitation, but they can be copied and named all the same for this purpose), then create an overwrite Material with it.
Have a look here:
Is that ideal? Perhaps not, but that is all I have at the moment.

What about NOT using the cryptomatte? But some other type of matte.
Maybe another AOV where I can ID the vertex map information? -
Hi, KJC_Creates; the idea with the material overwrite to create mattes, using only Emission as output, which should be fast (GI disabled).
I'm unaware of an option other than creating a specific setup allowing mixed materials on a single object.
Let me ask differently, what is the target? Could a position pass perhaps help?

I'm also looking for a way to export vertex maps as mattes. Did you ever figure this out or is this still not possible?

Hi voice-item,
Your question is different. If I understand correctly, you would just like the Vertex map data as a mask.
Here is an example. Render the file. Then go to the Render Settings and use the Overwrite Material. Render again.
I have set up a material that only shows the Vertex map. The material will show any Vertex map with the same name in the material entry.
If you have follow-up questions that are different, please open a new Forum Thread; otherwise, things become hard to search and read. Thank you.
