I imported an .AI file to model and did a days worth of work saving periodically. The next day I open C4d and open my file from yesterday only to see none of my progress saved from the day before. I'm sure my problem was working within the .AI layer instead of dragging all the null layers outside that .AI layer. Is there any way to recover progress from something like this? Why is this even an issue? C4D should save my progress even though its within an .AI layer.....

      Hi city-surgery,

There are two things you need to know:

First, saving incrementally and autosaving might help here.

But, as long as the Ai file is linked, it will read its current state when opening it. So, if any changes happen to the Ai file, that might show.

Since this is hard to reproduce, I don't ask for a file.

But safe incremental (Illustrator and Cinema4D). It might be beneficial at one point.

      All the best
