When you change the Position or Rotation parameter of the Null, then nothing happens.
The result changes if you go to the figure and change the Position or Rotation parameter.
The idea is that the Array takes the "Child" object to its own Position and Rotation. Otherwise, it might get very complicated. If you like to learn the Array, that is one thing to keep in mind, as otherwise, you might come to different conclusions.
In the CLoner, this is similar but changeable. Here, the entry Attribute Manager> Object> Reset Coordinates, while checked, delivers the same, but it is explored when it is unchecked. Another reason to use it. The Cloner object was introduced in 2006, while the Array is older.
As you mentioned, each object has some "ideas" about how things must be set up: Extrude, Spline, and especially Lathe. It takes some exploration effort to get there; you are right!
