Tutorial workflow problem / Version Compatibility
Thank you for the tutorial. At around the 5:40 mark, Noseman makes the sphere dynamic, and the vertex map causes a rubber band style collapse just beneath the sphere as the cloth falls. In C4D 2023.1.3, the cloth just drops through the tension, and no rubber band effect happens. It is as though the vertex map circular ring does not stick to the cloth after initial state. I noticed that in the Vertex Map's Basic Tab, there is no option for "Generators 5" like Noseman, but a similar item is in the Cloth Tag's basic tab. Could this be where the process changed from version to version? If so, what do I alter to make the vertex map stay on the cloth as it falls?

Hi James,
Sorry about this! I tested 2023.0 and 2023.1, and I can confirm that the Vertex values get lost when the distance to the Spline increases.
Please check out this file below. I have placed a Freeze on top of the Field list. Once the Layer Controls> Freeze button stores the data, the Spline Field can be shut off. (If the animation [Plane] comes close to the Spline, it would otherwise "write" new data into the Vertex tag).

Let me know if that works for you.
All the best

This certainly worked. Thank you for the quick reply. Was this a planned behavior change or was it just a bug? I am trying to integrate some of the tension effect with “Revealing a Logo By Burning” (another Noseman Tutorial) and wonder if the freezing will interfere with the way Noseman does the freeze radius expansion about 4:15 into the lesson “Revealing a Logo by Burning.” You don’t have to reply about that technique, just wondering if the change in my original post to the way the vertex map was planned.

Thank you, James.
When you look at the reveal tutorial at 02:39, you will see that the selection is lost when the plane moves down. That is precisely what we have as a problem above. The Freeze takes care of that in the same way I have described it above.
While set to grow, it needs a starting point: the Sphere Field in this example. What a bug or a feature is, I leave that to the developers and support. But let's say it works now as it should.
I understand your concern, given that a larger part of our knowledge is now used to identify useable from sloppy information while searching for proper sources; let me say this: Typically, Noseman put's a lot of effort into it. We are in a team and exchange knowledge, and after that, we also have a QA in place. But things constantly change, and then something like the discussion above is needed. Hence why we connect tutorials with a forum thread so we can answer quickly.
In the Q&A forum, you will see me ~99.5% of the time answering only if I have a project file or if I was able to reproduce it. Answering from memory is, from my point of view, sloppy and blurry. It might be right, but is it working with the current release? It always needs a practical check.
I hope that answers all your questions.
If not, please let me know. If not related to a specific tutorial, please feel free to use the Q&A forum.
Enjoy!
