Dear all, it's my first attempt to create a tech-like object and i want to attach a bunch of cables. But im having difficulties connecting the rope with the rigid body. When a use a connector tag and start playing the animation the cable is never really connected to the object.

So i presume im not using the right technique. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Much obliged. Screenshot 2024-01-11 221231.png

On this link you can find the project files.

        Hi network-iron,

Thanks for the file, and for using Google!

Please look here; it is just the cable and an option to hold things. (I reduced the scene and excluded anything that is not needed).
The first action was to remove the scale settings and get everything back to Scale =1

Pins would be the better way.

The Target Connector has a "Target Length" parameter; keep this one small.
I have introduced a new element with keyframes, so it stays in place based on the Rigid>Force Settings.

The sphere is the stress test.

        All the best

        P.S.: a simple example, stable.

Hello Dr. Sassi, thank you for your answer! But even with this simplified setup it still doesn't seem the right technique to use for animating a bunch of charging cables. (because the cable is jittering quite nervously and even though its aligned with the cylinder, after pressing play it immediately jumps out)

I image examples like this one from benjamin Fry use rigs and not actual physics?

            Hi network-iron,

            Thanks for the reference.

If I had to do it, this would be my setup.

I know that dynamic/simulation is tempting to let it do the work, but there is always a balance between set time and direct ability.

This took me ten minutes. Indeed, that needs fine-tuning to get to the expression one wants, but sitting with a client in a session and having this kind of an easy rig is hard to beat.

Here is the same scene but as Simulation.

Which one provides you with the best art direction?

P.S.: Here is a file where I have placed a few ideas into it. Just in case.

Belt, Pins/Force and Convert to Alembic, to avoid priority issues.

Nice! i found a tutorial that used the same techniques you're applying (the rig without sim). But i love the vibrator tag you added to create a little bit of life in te cables. I used a displacer with noise shading instead, to ad some randomness.

For some reason i always seem to forget you can combine keyframed animation with sim. Like your 2nd example with the vertex map. This was what i was looking for. Awesome! thank you so much!

Thank you very much, network-iron, for taking the time.

Yes, there are a few ways, each with a specific quality. Every question here is special to me, and I like to answer in kind.

I'm glad there was one that works for you.

When I get a question here, I often get only the end, the middle, or just the end (the roadblock) of the whole story. Problems often start earlier, so I like to share and feel my way through the replies to understand the best (possible) answer.

Thank you for taking the time.

My best wishes for your project
