      Hi,
I have a scene with the magazine in the asset browser. When I first add it to the scene, it works flawlessly; I can open and close the magazine as I wish. However, after some time (always different), the magazine seems messed up and does not open or close fully any more (although it unfolds from 0 to 100%). Does anyone have a clue what is happening here?

PS: I have tried to attach the scene, but I only get errors (it is below 2MB). Maybe i can send the file to somewhere else?

      PS2. I have Cinema4D 2024.2.0; maybe it is a compatibility issue?

      Thanks for your help.

      Marcel

        Hi Marcel,

I will take a look in the (late, sorry) morning. It is midnight here, and I thought that when you see that I posted replies elsewhere, that might feel weird.

        Cheers

            Hi Marcel,

Thanks for understanding, and to wait until all my meetings, etc., in the morning are done.

For files above 1MB, such as Dropbox, Apple, Adobe, Google, or Wetransfer, please understand that I limit this cloud service list to the few I have explored, and those feel safe to me.

I'm happy to look into your file.

Perhaps this already helps; the "mechanic" inside is that Unfold 1, Unfold 2, and Unfold 3 are in a Hierarchy.
This means if Unfold 1 is at any time below 100.0%, it sets the value of Unflold 2 to 0.0%. Unfold 2 overwrites in the same way Unfold 3.
This was the fastest way for me to break it if I ignored to check it.

Anyway, I might miss something, and I'm happy to look into your file.

            Cheers

              Hi Dr. Sassi,
              Link to the file:

I only used Unfold 1 up until now. This is already causing issues.

                Hi Marcel,

Thank you very much for the file.
It feels like the Spine is twisted.

Please look to see if that is working now on your end.
Please "Save Incremental" after a few steps, so it is easy to return to when it was working and, hopefully, to determine what parameter change caused the flip.
I reviewed all User Data options and set up a copy of yours. It works here.

I assume you have not changed any of the hidden components.

Let me know how it goes; I'm sorry for your trouble.

                Cheers

                  Hi Dr. Sassi,

Thanks for the file. It is working on my side as well. But now things get really weird: I open your file, it works, I copy it to my scene and it stops working ... I go back to your scene, and now this also does not work anymore!? I have made a short video to show you what is happening.

                    Hi Marcel,

Thanks for the file, yes that helped to see the problem. Thanks also for using Dropbox.

The simple answer is that the rig cannot be moved.

It seems to work fine as long as it stays at position zero.

Moving it up or changing anything PSR-wise fails. I will write a report about it.

I assume you want to use it anyway. So pack your whole scene under a Null, except for the Magazine. At all costs, leave the Magazine in its current position.
Now, take the Null of the main scene and move the whole "set" so the Magazine is on the table. Perhaps P.Y -75 already works.

I have not found any other workaround, and please test this carefully.

                    Sorry about this.

                    All the best

Update: unfortunately when rendering, I again get strange effects: not unfolding completely and pages bending through each other. It happens only in the final render. In renderview, it is ok.

I give up 😉 Project needs to go on. I have now downloaded an animated magazine from turbosquid. Not as beautiful as the one in the asset browser but it suits the job.

                            Hi Marcel,

I'm sorry to hear that. This was indeed not tested as much as it should have been.
I hope this discussion will help to improve it in the future. Thanks for your patience with it.
I certainly know that this caused a lot of wasted time on your end. Thank you for keeping it very constructive!

My answer delay was caused by a transformer exploding with a big buzz and blue lighting close to our home during heavy winds in L.A. and many hours of an outage.

My best wishes for your project
