Sculpting with the new Symmetry Tool
-
Not sure if I should ask Maxon support for this one, but Im doing a bit of sculpting in the newest c4d version and noticed the new updated symmetry tool is missing the "clamp objects on axis" option as seen here: https://pasteboard.co/YScBhU1dCXKC.png
I cant smooth any detail in the middle of my model without a huge hole appearing on the symmetry line as seen here: https://pasteboard.co/kaKkwaZcgsWC.png
Any idea how I can fix this?
I cant see an equivalent setting in the new symmetry tool, I've tried with crossed planes, weld on, weld off and with different tolerance levels and still can't sculpt near the symmetry line without breaking the mesh.
Thanks again!

Hi MaverickMongoose,
If you lock the Points at the symmetry "seam", then the next point row will heavily change the polygon size while all following neighbors (away from the Symmetry plane) will not. At least, that is my understanding of why the sculpting tool has no active symmetry for a partial model to be mirrored or even multiple segments to be possible while keeping the surface watertight.
I believe the Cinema 4D Sculpting tool is supposed to work with a single mesh and not with symmetry-based with symmetry-based meshes. You can but it doesn't work as you like to have it. I get that. This would require defining the points and locking those against movement.
Please check with tech Support

Cheers

As a side note, as I have not checked your links:To keep it safe for anyone, I typically use only a few sources to click on.
I have no idea who Pasteboard is; a quick check gives me this
• The website's owner is hiding his identity on WHOIS using a paid service
• Several spammers and scammers use the same registrar
• Both positive as well as negative reviews for this siteWhich red flags this for me. Sorry, but I have to be super picky here.
According to some sources, some companies receive up to two billion hack attempts daily, making me wonder how small-size providers can handle that. Yes, it is sad that hackers distort the options for new companies so much.
Instagram (or even Imgur) is a relatively safe option for images. Besides, DropBox, Google, Adobe, Apple, and Wetransfer were checked carefully, which was a considerable effort each time. Please consider the many "download" options I get yearly. If I just use it, chances are I get malware at one point, which might infect a single file that I share here, so there's NO way I just click and trust what a website's graphic tells me with the OK button for the download. What do I agree to? Download means to give access to a drive. That is the entry point. Am I neurotic? Let's talk about this in a few years.
I have some safety apps here, but when I get asked if I am OK with a download option, I pretty much turn those off. Thanks for understanding. -
Thanks for that, I guess I'll try Maxon in that case (or maybe just send the model to Zbrush instead). Just thought there might be a setting I missed somewhere.
I had no idea about pasteboard, I've used it for years without any problem but it sounds like I might need to try something else if they're a bit dodgy.
The file uploader here never works for me, but I'll just use WeTransfer next time.
Thanks again!

Thank you very much, MaverickMongoose,
Pasteboard might be completely OK, but I can't take chances; I get only a lot of signals from our IT to be super careful. I try to keep it simple. Indeed, my way of doing it might be annoying, but I look at the product, and that is keeping it safe. Again, sorry about that. Cool that you might try Wetransfer; thank you!
I'm sitting here doing the "Timestamps and QA" for the stream "Come and See how it's made": With the Training Director Ian Robinson, typically each Wednesday, if possible, usually 3 hours long. He is always open to any (!) ZBrush question, and since he has vast experience and works door-to-door with the ZBrush developers, that is first-hand information. Just a thought.

Thanks again Dr Sassi, I might have to give that a watch then!

You're very welcome, MaverickMongoose.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Please note, next week will be no stream, he is presenting at GDC.
The stream is based on a complete workflow, sometimes split into more streams, but any question can be asked at any time, even unrelated to the central theme.
With three hours of running time, that is enough to ask, explore it for a while, and be able to ask follow-up questions even.
Besides, it is filled with many tools and functions along the way.
Enjoy

Brilliant, thank you!
