Rotate clones around effector axis?
-
Happy New Year Dr Sassi, hope you had a good one!
Do you happen to know if its possible to rotate a selection of clones around a defined axis with Effectors and Fields? And not the clones local axis?
I thought this might be achivable with the plain effector and a linear field, by setting the Transform Space to 'Effector' but that doesnt seem to do anything.
I've attached an example file showing what I'm trying to achieve.
I guess it could be done with Nulls and parenting, but it seems like it should be easy enough to achieve with mograph.
Thanks again!!

Hi MaverickMongoose,
Here is a setup that would do precisely that, but in steps. Please have a look.
Clones have their own Axis (Matrix, to be more precise), and the information starts to work there. Hence, there is no native option to move a group while keeping the constellation as is during any kind of move.
The typical follow-up question is that every clone needs to be moved (then) individually after the group move; this needs another step, like the setup below.
I hope that works, at least for your project.
Cheers

Thanks Dr Sassi, interesting approach!
Shame clones cant be rotated around the effector axis though, that could allow for some interesting effects.
I'll give this method a try then.
Thanks again!

You're very welcome, MaverickMongoose.
Yes, if that could be easily defined, that would be great.
Perhaps share your idea with MAXON, and if many more people read this and submit one as well, it ends up high on the to-do list.

Just wanted to reply that I came to this thread looking for the same answer. I want to be able to create an organic "orbit" with cloner objects in a constellation moving at individual speeds around a central axis.

@jeff-bluejade I ended up using the technique shown in this tutorial for a rubiks cube to solve my problem: https://youtu.be/9fTtL-TFMSQ

Thanks for the reply, Maverick Mongoose.
