dynamic rig (following cineversity tut)
-
Hi!
I found this tutorial:
https://cineversity.maxon.net/es/tutorials/siggraph_2017_rewind_ej_hassenfratz_essential_character_riggingFortunately, it covers exactly what I need to do, so it's incredibly helpful! However, I’ve run into a problem—please see the attached file. My tentacles seem too straight and rigid. Even when I lower the "strength" or "drag" values, it still doesn’t behave like it does in the tutorial.
By the way, I’m a complete newbie at rigging.
Thanks

Hi Cit,
Thanks for the file, I changed only the first four Dynamic Parameters (IK Tag) a little bit, and added a tiny movement to the Vibrate Tag in x and z, to change the influence of the Movement along the joints a little bit (they "rotate" better that way).
To have not the same values on the Bend Deformer, the Filed Driver is ideal for Cloned Object here. Delete it when it is too much action. It is just a suggestion or follow-up from the other thread.
CV4_2025_drs_25_CAoc_03.c4dAs a side note, Joint.1 was twice in the chain, so I renamed the last one, Joint.6 (the Tip joint), to be sure that it was the one on the End field of the IK Tag. Not urgently needed, but naming things helps along the project to keep it manageable.
Cheers

Hi!
Thanks! I made it smaller, and it works much better now, but it’s still not exactly what I want. I’ll keep trying.Regarding the field driver, I’m using it with the clones, but it doesn’t look as smooth as it does with the rig.
And everything has to loop...I’ll get back to you if I run into any other problems (which is quite possible, by the way).
Many thanks!

Hi Cit,
Thanks for the reply. Please have a look at this file. Could you open it and press play?
You might quickly find what is different when you enable the second of the tree example.
The imperfections I have introduced in the joint chain make it more perceptive to vertical motions.
Which I think is more natural-looking and perhaps more convincing. (Front view works best to compare those)Enjoy
