Advanced Biped Character Definition
-
I cannot for the life of me map an advanced Biped to be driven by a character solver.
I have manually added all bones (yes including IK+FK+BLND) and nothing works, I got a bit of movement by adding some and not others but I could not figure out what made those bones work.
All I can figure is I need SOME of the bones like IK and FK but not all the bones?Anyone have some experience here? Not being able to use Mocap for a starting point on advanced riggs is nuts to me.
I feel like C4D should just have an advance biped preset.
If I can get this to work by some miracle I will upload it the preset to gumroad. -
Hi Fettness,
For this, the Character> Mixamo Rig was created. To my knowledge, the main difference is based on missing Eye and Jaw options.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HS2S5SleiHEThe Face Rig might help here. The setup is explained here:

Right, yeah I understand there are other rigs that auto import, but if you have a rig that needs the fine controls of the advanced biped rig but you want to drive it with mocap that should work right? I feel like I am just missing the correct bones to ad the the character definition.

Hi Fettness,
I'm not aware of any default solution for this. Nor has anyone ever asked in the past ten years to connect this rig with MoCap data.
When you check all the FK Joints, the number of Constraint Tags that rule over those would prevent using them quickly.
IK and FK are the feed for the Bind Joints, meaning that if you need to overwrite anything, that would require a lot of change.Using only the Controller to transfer would also not work. So, creating that definition would be a lot of sorting through. Yet, again, the typical Motion capture would not provide all the needed information to run it. Which leaves a lot of manual work along the way. I haven't seen a MoCap from anyone here that would contain all the details, which is even more valid for the Toon rig/character.
Character Defintions come to mind.
I can only suggest opening a ticket with the needs that you have. "Share Your Ideas"

My best wishes

@Fettness Did you find a workaround for this? I'm trying to do the same, but I'm running into similar issues. Every example/tutorial I have seen so far is using a Mixamo rig. Even when using the mocap data from the content browser.
I find it absurd that this has not been streamlined yet.

Hi DjeisonCanuto,
Please keep in mind that the Advanced Rig contains three different Joint Rigs, the FK, the IK, and the Binding one, while all are in some or other way connected to the Controllers. The Mixamo rig has more parts to make that connection happen. I see here a reason why you find no tutorials about running the Advanced Rig with Mixamo data or similar data sets.
In the image below, it is easy to see how they differ; the selected numbers (on the left) are the ones from the Mixamo rig. The Numbers on the right are from both while set up with comparable features.
Compare the XPresso and Python numbers, here is the main difference.
Here is the set up, see for yourself.
https://projectfiles.maxon.net/Cineversity_Forum_Support/2025_PROJECTS_DRS/20250715_CV4_2025_drs_25_CAam_01.c4d.zipIt is not absurd, it is based on that it is a lot of work, while the amount of requests are slim to none. (AFAIK)
Please request this via the "Share your ideas".

@Dr-Sassi Ah, I see that now. Thank you for your explanation, and I will keep this in mind for future rigs that require mocap animation.

Yeah there isn't a way to remap it without a LOT of manual work and even then I found it far more efficient to simply re-rig using Mixamo Rig.
The advanced biped rig really shouldn't ever be used as far as I can tell.
You would have to know you never want to use the rig outside of C4D and not with any Face/body mocap, remapping, Cascadur, etc -
You're very welcome, DjeisonCanuto,
And thank you for your reply!
Please know that I would love it if we could merge these two in one while keeping the better parts and functions of each. (I own a Rokoko suit, gloves, and even the Coil here; any option to use the setup's full capacity with the Advanced Character, perhaps even the face/eyes setup, would make me happy)
With this being said, I surely support this, but we need more input, "Share your ideas", so it becomes clear that not just a fraction of artists ask for this, so please drop the Suggestion box a line
Thank you very much.
My best wishes for all your projects.

Thank you, Fettness, for your input.
I hope more people find working with Mocap a rewarding experience. I'm sure with more advanced Architecture Visualization, this kind of work will get more attention to fill scenes with live. Especially people interacting or walking upstairs, etc.
Anyway, in my vision, I see many more artists doing movies, and being able to do it pretty much anywhere is a huge step forward. Something that wasn't even thinkable a decade ago.
Enjoy, and of course, my best wishes for your projects.
