Hi Dr Sassi, I'm trying to apply random colors to clones in Redshift.

I've made a Redshift Material with a Color User Data (set to Index Ratio) plugged into a Ramp with 8 colours.

On 8 clones in a cloner set to linear, each color is applied as expected.

However if the cloner is set to a grid of 8 instead the colors arent applied one after the other, it just takes the two end colors of the ramp.

Any idea how I can make it work correctly on a grid of clones?

      Thanks againquestion.c4d

        Hi MaverickMongoose,

Thank you very much for your file.

The answer is based on the idea that the Matrix sequence would change a lot if animated (Count), perhaps only on one axis; nearly all IDs would change, even with minimal changes.

If you like to continue the ID flow, a little extra work is needed. The Matrix Object delivers the Matrix, and the Cloner shares the ID for every single clone.

        Here is your file

Here is an animation with the flow set up, animated

Is this working for your project?

        Cheers

Thanks for that. I thought it might be easier to do! Shame it needs Xpresso, I never would have thought to do that.

Good to know though, I'll see if I can apply that to my project.

          Thanks again!

Is it possible to randomize the colors with this setup so they arent all colored in a row like that?

              Hi MaverickMongoose,

              Thank you for the reply.

The XPresso was used to keep it comfortable, just having the numbers in sync.

To have the colors randomized, I would just use a Random Effector.

This is much easier to set up directly, and you can influence the overall color/contrast/saturation with the Random Effector>Effector> Min/Max.

The other example uses a Color Correction Node to have more control over the setup.

Please let me know if that works for you.

              All the best
