Is there an easy way to sculpt on an alembic file that works during the animation play backin C4D? I have an older, great tool called Chronosculpt that does this perfectly, but needs MDD files first. I've tried sculpting an ABC file in C4D using morphs and poses, but gives me horrible results. The point count is not changing either. Could be a mode that I'm not familiar with in the pose setup too.. but I played around with "in-place" and still had issues. Thanks!

      Hi display-enthusiasm,

The sculpting would not affect the data of the abc file.

The following is an idea; please note: I would always try to back it then to a new Alembic file. Test this carefully, as I have no file from you here.

What I would do is add a Correction Deformer, and while it is active, I would use the sculpting tools to create all points in question.

When done, (again) perhaps write out a new Alembic file, as all the options of an Alembic file, e.g., retiming, would be out of sync if the Correction deformer is also animated, e.g., Strength.

All of that is based on your input of "fixed Points".

My best wishes for your project

Thank you, Dr. Sassi. I will give this a try when I can. I opted not to send a file, due to project sensitive material. I guess I could always setup a test-file in these cases. Thanks again.

Upon a quick test on my alembic file, using the Correction Deformer definitely helps. Not as flexible as I was hoping, but more on track to fix some pesky passthru issues if needed. Thank you!

Yes, display-enthusiasm, not as smooth as working on a polygon model.

            Thanks for the feedback.

P.S. Just to Provide an alternative.

Pressing the "a" key to see the results is not everyone's taste, but I thought it was worth a shot. For repairs, just paint over the "pesky" little ones.
