I don't know if this is the right place to ask that question. I don't know if there's been any communication about it, but I'd like to know what Maxon's development strategy is in relation to other software like Blender and Unreal for example. As they are free and open-source software, they evolve faster. I'd like to know if Maxon has any development projects. I'm thinking of Geometry Nodes, Fluid Simulation System and "real-time" rendering.

      Thanks

        Hi Pitchi,

Geometry Nodes have been in the works for a long time, and as far as I'm aware, they are a public beta. Since everything is in development, things change, and with that, very little training is available, and if there is, it is surely in danger of being outdated.

This is all my take on it, not Maxon's!

Define the word free. Some free software companies clearly know what you have to pay them. At the same time, nothing is promised to stay forever for free.

Other companies are free of Tech Support, correct ;-), and open source needs a lot of control to stay safe. Open often feels like an invitation for some...

On the other hand, you ask here, where I have given pretty much nonstop creative solutions support since 2006, and, if needed, check with anyone at Maxon to get the best (first-hand) answer. I can't even count the number of projects that I have supported.

Is this the right place to discuss this? Not really, as I signed an NDA in 2006, which is a promise that I made, and I keep it. So, what is in the pipeline is not something I can share. I check the maxon.net site, and if it is there, I can discuss it. But so can you. Talking about money is not what I do here, and I hope every artist here has excellent success; at least, that is what I try to support here, so the subscription costs are just a tiny part of the whole equation in the discussion.

For me, any company is only as good as its support. For example, if you order a faulty device online and no one takes care of it, how good is it then?
Is anything perfect? Indeed not, and any change might introduce something new. But how much care goes into it, and how stable is the backend of everything? If you invest your time in something, it might be a good idea to check.

In my book, the most expensive part of software these days is your knowledge of it, as it took time to get there; Maxon does a lot to accelerate the process of up-skilling everyone in that regard.

Again, this is not the place, but I hope sharing my thoughts adds a few ideas about it.

        Enjoy!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I really like working with Cinema 4D and I plan to stay with it because I like how it works and I like the community. I'm really happy when an update comes out and when I see super cool stuffs on other software it would be great if they were on Cinema4D too 🙂

          Thanks you for your reply

Thank you very much for the feedback, Pitchi.

Whatever you want or need for your workflow, please use the "Share Your Ideas" here:
            https://www.maxon.net/en/support-center

I see, yes, of course, and I know that feeling only too well. Over the years, I have made a lot of requests myself, which is over a thousand by now.
On the other hand, I typically learn new software every month or a major update. Initially, that was to have the features I wanted (' 90s+), but for two+ decades, the main idea has been to keep my beginner feeling fresh and not lose connection to that for my sharings here. (The bandwidth is wide, though). It is a good practice to have all the patience in the world with others, knowing how it feels to not get the right answers.

This means I get exposed to a lot of great ideas from a lot of great software, and sure, I want them all 😉
I often try to replicate things for Cinema 4D, and I find that a nice game in itself, as it allows me to shape things as I need them.

I'm not a good example, and I'm not sure that helps right now. But I share my view, so you understand I have no "ten best answers stamps" here. I listen, and I use our tools seven days a week. I hope that allows you to see that I care and surely drive some people here nuts with my requests in a good way.

Suppose you put anything into the "Share Your Ideas" section, and I'm in one of our "Trainer/Developer" meetings, exchanging experience and whatnot. In that case, I'm happy to support your ideas, and fingers crossed, I can do that for your ideas successfully, I do that – no question and zero hesitation.

            Enjoy your weekend
