fit to polygons
-
Hi Dr Sassi, Im not sure if its possible but Im trying to stack a bunch of boxes up and have them move and scale based on shifting polygons made by the Partition Modifier.
Using a cloner I've managed to clone the boxes to the polygons and have them scale up, but I want them to fit the the polygons better, so they stretch and shrink like the polygons do.
Is there a way to make objects fit to a polygon? Or would it need to be a complex xpresso setup?
I kinda got it to work by extruding the polys to make boxes, then if I bake the boxes I can add my own custom geometries in the same places as the baked boxes, then drive each box with the mesh deformer, but this process is super slow and breaks if the poly is too small.
Was just wondering if you knew a better way. I wonder if there's a capsule or scene node that would do it.
Here's my project: https://we.tl/t-EVrJdEAGkd
Thanks again!

Hi MaverickMongoose,
Thanks for the file. It is very helpful to understand what you are after.
Here are two files. The second one also moves the boxes but scales in Z.
CV4_2025_drs_24_MGbx_01.c4d
CV4_2025_drs_24_MGbx_02.c4dI have used the Clone Weight with the Palin Effector to adjust the box size in Z (if that is even wanted). You can just "paint" the weight on the clones. (In the second file switch the Random off, while painting)
Please note that the number of boxes provides IDs; if you change the number, the Weight Paint will change accordingly.
Let me know if that works for you.
Enjoy your project

Thanks for that, but what I mean is that I need a custom geometry to squash and squeeze along with the polygons rather than extruding the polys.
The objects Ill be using are cubic shaped so I just used a cube in the example I sent over.
So it's like transferring the squash and stretch of the polygons to other objects if that makes sense.
This is kinda what Im going for: https://www.instagram.com/reel/BwZzmMlgkjy/?hl=en

Thanks for the feedback, MaverickMongoose.
NitroFit was able to do that for a while, but I see only older versions supported. Perhaps ask him.
https://nitro4d.com/product/nitrofit/There is no option in MoGraph or XPresso for the set using the Partition Modifier.
Sorry, I have no Instagram account anymore; since I had a hundred images of my artwork there, and they like to use anything for AI training, I closed it. I don't want to see my work misused like this, and surely not for free. So I can't see your image. DropBox.
Since it has been a long-time wish for many people to have the ability to X/Y scale polygon-based objects, perhaps "Share Your Idea" would be a good idea. I will bump this again, but the number of requests has been too high.

No worries, I'll give up on that one then, thanks though

Thank you for your reply, MaverickMongoose, and thanks for the patience here.
When I find something I will update the thread here.
Cheers
