    The following situation:
A cylinder object is extruded along a hair object using a spline wrap modifier. I would like to control the strength of the extrusion via effectors, so that each cylinder takes on different lengths of the spline (hair object).
Unfortunately, controlling the effect with the help of the hair properties does not work as desired. This modifies the scaling of the hair splines rather than the scaling of my cylinders along the splines.

    Hence the question:
Is there another approach to individually modify the extrusion of my objects with the help of effectors (e.g. shader effectors)?

Thanks a lot for pondering! 🙂

      Hi organization-clerk,

What I got about your setup is, (sadly, no project file and after exploring it now, I don't need one anymore); you like to keep the original length of hair, but the Cylinder applied along it should differ for each location/hair – while hair is in dynamic mode.

There is no option with Spline Wrap or MoGraph; after many tests, it is not with Hair, to my knowledge. The Spline Wrap has one Bounding Box, which will be used to evaluate the distribution for all. There are no individual length lengths, if not split into single Splines.

To have the hair at full length, wile the Hair material for the length of the Instance will scale it, which is differnt then the From-to % options. So, Hair and Cylinder are not aligned anymore.

I also tried caching Alembic and copying Hair and a random length, but I couldn't find anything.

If the hair would be static, it might be easier.
      .

Anyway, questions without a project file are more difficult to answer. For future questions, please consider this option. (A C4D file can be attached here with max 1MB; otherwise, I open only DropBox, Wetransfer, Google, Apple, or Adobe. Not zipped, and please never ever a "rar" files, no tiny URL, and please always just paste the URL in text, readable. Sorry for the long text, but I try to avoid extra work for you.

      All the best
