Redshift proxies and scaling with transmission depth issue.
-
I am working on a project for an eyewear company, and the glasses are translucent in different colors. Because there are many complex scenes in the motion graphics with them, I am using RS proxies in case I need to update the model.
Some scenes are using a cloner and there is scaling to the glasses. Due to the transmission depth, when the glasses are very small, they lose all color and become almost clear due to the original transmission depth, being matched to the new scaled size. Is there a way to override, or "lock in" the master size "transmission depth" and still be able to scale the glasses down? Meaning, keeping the color from the original RS proxy size? Thanks in advance.

Hi background-permit,
You could set a User Data to your object, which contains the data you like to change, while you overwrite that User Data in the RS Proxy Object.

The idea here is clear: the included material is set in units, not as a fixed ratio. Following the idea of the size. I get that it is not wanted for your production.
I avoid the "Share Your Idea" with Maxon here, as it does not feel like something that can afford to wait.
This is not something I have used in production, so I ask you to test this carefully in your production.
I have very little idea about your setup.https://projectfiles.maxon.net/Cineversity_Forum_Support/2025_PROJECTS_DRS/20250307_CV4_2025_drs_25_RSps_01.zip
I have created two versions, one as expected for 100% scale and smaller ones, while adjusting the materials for the smaller version. Both are exported as separate RS Proxies.
On Clone with one Clone output is used while in Blend mode, while an Effector is used as "Modify Clone."That Cloner can be then used in the Master Cloner, while the Modify Clones is perhaps run via fields.
Which allows it to scale while the colors stay. AGAIN: not tested in any production. The idea of RSD Proxy is to optimize a specific state of a setup, not to individualize it afterward, which is counterintuitive. I would check if Instances or XRef are perhaps the better way.
I assume you have explored setting up the colors with Gradients or Normal shader and have not gotten the results you are after.
All the best
