PreviousPosition.Y does not work
-
For a Piston Mesh box modelled from a cube, was trying to figure out if the Piston is moving up in Y or moving down in Y between a min - 70 and max 150
Used the Xpresso network as shown above. Somehow the Piston Object always outputs the same value attributes Position.Y and PreviousPosition.Y
Example: When Piston moves down, and P.Y is set to 70 from 150, Previous position instead of outputting 150, outputs 70
How can I fix this ?
-
Guess Position.Y is "local" position so if the piston is placed inside a parent object like a null it updates values when the piston moves down.

Hi euro-family-flow,
Just use the one-frame forward button, and watch the numbers. Or use the g key.
The editor view is refreshing with each click if needed. If refreshed: The last position is the current one and not the one in the previous frame.Since I have no file here, I can't suggest anything specific. Perhaps bake the animation, create a copy, and move all tracks of the copy a frame forward (counterintuitive, like daytime saving) to get the previous frame.
All the best

@Dr-Sassi
Thank you for the reply Dr. Sassi. That was awesome job. Hope the post reached you when it was not midnight there, when you could have been busy packing up to go home for the day.Unfortunately, One Forward frame made no difference. Clicks made no difference either. Somehow the stupid thing is working now, though the Result values do not update. At the time of the post the result was not Hooked up to the driven attribute. Now that it is connected, the driven attribute works its just the values do not update.
Could have posted a file, but if you made changes to the file and asked me to open it without explaining it, It would be useless, because I don't know if you can be trusted (from a security perspective).
Perhaps I should post a file, so it might be useful for someone encountering the same problem ? Please advise if that's the SOP/Community-Guidelines to promote Good Karma on Cineversity.
NB: Please have No hard feelings, your photo looks like an Honest Innocent German Smiling Genius. Saying Genius cuz I have seen some of your Xpresso tuts on Cineversity from 2006-ish, the only thing I could understand was your Introduction, the rest of the videos looked like a presentation by Albert Einstein that Whizzed past my down-to-earth intelligence - ie, I couldn't understand a thing :). It Felt like "Steven Shapiro's made up language Prank" on YouTube.

Thank you Dr. Sassi.
Am a character animator/actor+director for an ad company and love to pick up behavioural traits from people around me to give LIFE to my characters. We act out our characters before creating them whether they are live characters or cartoon characters. When I write "no hard feelings", it's a disclaimer that I have found an interesting character with an interesting behavioural identity. Everything is seen through the eyes of a Cartoon Character Animator. Please don't try to interpret words to find meaning outside the intended meaning of what I meant.
Thank you for your understanding. Thank you.
Take Care. -
Hi euro-family-flow,
Got it, no problem.
Please keep the posts to the tools and functions, and creative aspects. Thank you. It might be hard to keep a limit on the talking points here otherwise.
I want that anyone feels safe to show up here without being profiled or classified. I found it not nice at all. No idea how others would feel, and I like to not test it.It is midnight here, so good night or perhaps good morning.

Thank you Dr. Sassi.
The Sun hadn't risen in our part of the primitive world and my work had not ended since the last reply, hence the late reply. That feeling of how others will feel is called EMPATHY.
Having studied in US for 5 years, it's just my muscle memory to counter intimidation with a taste of their medicine to invoke empathy.
I sincerely hope your Declaration of Free Speech on Cineversity means the empathetic forum experts won't make the newbies run around in circles, which is common bullying practice in other 3D Software Forums. As a Newbie, I already feel safe on Cineversity and shall spread the word around the world about this.I do hereby swear that I would absolutely keep the posts to the tools and functions and creative aspects.
Thank you for understanding.
Thank you. -

[OFF-TOPIC]
Thank you Dr. Sassi
Since you brought up the Diagnosis of EGO and Psychology in a Cinema4d forum, just wanted to let you know that...
I am also a Doctor with 25+ years of experience treating drug addicts with non-compliance.
I think I definitely have to read more than 168 psychology books in the library every year to maintain my certification.
But you seem more "humbly" experienced and confident in Freudian Diagnostics with a Ph D in Cinema 4d.
Now How cool is that ?The reason I don't keep a Doctor Prefix to my Name is because some hypocrites and bullies in some countries might call it my ego and will blatantly refuse to provide help about Cinema4d on forums, while they call themselves the "good guys" working to "bring creativity & change to the world" but then somehow live like they are "above the law".
Anyways, Thank you for baring the hidden Psyche and Work Ethics of Cineversity.
Thank you for soft bullying with Empathy.
Above all Thank you for your inclusion of diversity and multiculturalism. You are Awesome. Now back to Cinema4d
Cheers. -

ON TOPIC
I hope the trust to open a file has increased, euro-family-flow. The great Admin/IT team told me that they designed the attachments here without the option to use zip files. But we agreed that c4d files could be attached natively.
However, if that feels weird for you to open, you can try this test via XPresso. Animate an object with more considerable distances between the keys, and use the Position and Previous Position to determine the distance between the two. Since XPresso is sometimes hard to see, I love those visual representations. So the more different the previous and current position is, the larger the circle will show up (Play head is running).Let me know how that goes. Thank you.
Enjoy

The Trust to open files from forums still not increased is the "Truth", Dr.Sassi
That Level of Trust Requires a few more clarifications.
- If you have made 700 Free tutorials and countless charitable contributions since 2004, how come Maxon does not do any live webinars with you ?
Need to see you and study you in person in a webinar doing some Maxon Master Training on Xpresso and Mograph. - The need to use un-necessary circumlocituous remarks instead of giving straight answers feels like an attempt to hide something.
An Example: "Its midnight here, I still looked at the post, but... I was busy helping others, I haven't eaten breakfast"
Like you said, nobody cares, Ultimately the only thing that matters is -- the results you produce or the services you provide or the 'products you create'.About the debugging issue, it works with big numbers between keyframes.
Thank you Dr. Sassi, you are Awesome.

Hi euro-family-flow,
Perhaps time to look elsewhere. I shared a lot of information to give you some background. I stop here.
If you don't trust, I believe you're best equipped to solve that; you have the background to figure that out.
Take care.
