Using Expresso to display measurements
-
I'm working on a template for adding dimension lines to model objects. I want to have the measurement (in inches) to display at the midpoint of the line. However, I can't get the numbers displayed to match the measurement it's calculated from. I feel like the units in the calculation are different from what appears in the number field. So it may just be a setting checkbox - though everything I can see is in inches. Project attached.

Hi fordmar,
Thanks for the file!
198.12 cm equals 78 inches.
Let me know if that works for you.
The Formula node (abs($1)) takes the negative out, so you have positive (absolute) values all the time.
Here is your file back.
Cheers

Ah - the Math:Multiply node is a conversion factor - converting cm to inches? That works. But I would have expected C4D to have a preset for that - so you don't have to put it in "by hand." Not surprising that Cinema operates natively in metric. We Americans are slow to change

Thanks for the feedback, fordmar.
Your scene was set to Centimeter, perhaps try inches in the Project Settings> Scale, Or check the Preferences> Units.
Don't worry; even last week, I couldn't directly pinpoint if an M2 or M2.5 screw/bolt or a #2-56-3/8" went missing on my Follow Focus. It was the latter. (I measured 2.2 mm, so I searched. But I have never heard about 2-56 UNC)
I find the Inch with decimal points (instead of fractions) confusing, even after being in California for 18 years. I think growing up in one system leaves a mark.Cheers
