xref files not opening
-
I have a bunch of files that are linked to an xref that will no longer open. In the task manager at the bottom it shows that it is "loading" and at the end the time remaining just goes up and up, and C4d becomes unresponsive. These files are on a network for work. If I save the xref file locally onto my computer it will open, but all the scene files that are referencing that file will not open, even if saved to my computer as they are still searching for the xref file on the network.

Thank you Dr Sassi! I have created a support ticket, and wanted to check here just in case anyone had some solutions. Hopefully it will be an easy fix.

Hi leininger609,
If I knew a specific solution, I would love to share it.
Sorry.
Fingers crossed, the problem is found quickly!
Cheers

Thanks Dr Sassi! I was reading a post in a different forum that others recommending using an absolute path vs. a relative path? Would you know how to do that with the xref file?

Thanks for the follow-up, leininger609.
Please have a look here:
https://help.maxon.net/c4d/2024/en-us/Default.htm#html/68600.htmlThe entries for your XRef will show up here. When you right-mouse-click on an entry, you can change the path.
You mentioned placing the linked file on your drive; that wouldn't work with just a relative path.
Relative paths are in use when you "Save with assets." for example, the textures in the tex folder have relative path names, as Cinema 4D is supposed to look into those.
I have tried so far not to waste your time and asked to check with the Support directly. But let me ask you this: will it work when you use:
Preferences> Files> File Assets, and link the folder with the project files there.
Any luck?
All the best
