Dynamics Question
-
Hello, I have a question about dynamics, specifically rope dynamics. Say I have a model of a bike. I make the brake cable, that runs from the handlebars to the back wheel. It it possible to anchor spline points to objects, so that when the handlebars turn, the cable bends and moves in a realistic manner? Can I anchor one end to an object, and the other end to a different object? This is killing me trying to keyframe this stuff. If someone (who am I kidding, it will be Dr. Sassi) can point me in the right direction... That would be swell.
Thanks in advance

Hi Simon,
Typically these Brake Cable tubes are not very flexible, so they have their mind on how to behave.
I would do those things with tiny Null rigs. Take a look here:
It has the least amount of calculation, as far as I know..
Use the Null named handles to rotate. Adjust the P.Z.; of the child objects to change the cable's characteristics. For a little bit more realistic feeling, the "Cube" Null can take a slow Vibrate tag (Priority higher than the XPresso, as in Expression +10)
If you need it more advanced, perhaps we have a look into Spline I.K., but typically the Null rig from above works.
All the best

Cheers mate...

You're very welcome, Simon,
Please note that I prefer the Null/MoGraph Tracer setup over the Spline IK. But it is equally good if the Spline is used instead of the Joints in the Spline IK setup.
