Default Config for Node Editor
-
When I bring up the Node Editor, by double-clicking on a material in the Material Manager, I would like the Node Editor to come up with both side panels open and on the left my Favorites already selected. Is this possible?
Thanks,
Greg -
Hi Greg,
Set up the two panels as you like, close and delete the material, and save this as a Start-Up Layout.
If that works for all versions, I have not tested it since your question was general. For 2024.1.0, it works for me.
Cheers

@Dr-Sassi Perfect! It worked fine on 2024.1.0

I'm glad to hear that, Greg.
Enjoy!

Hi Dr. Sassi! I changed the UI font size a bit and now some of th eother pop-up UI, e.g., UV editor, UV Manager, GSG Plus Library. So, now to see everything on those UIs when they pop up I need to resize them manually. Should the same procedure work to change the default size of these UIs? I tried but it doesn't seem to keep the new size.
Thanks,

Hi Greg,
I changed the font size and restarted the app.
Then, I changed the Node editor on the left and right.
Saved as Startup Layout.
Closed the app and restarted
The Node editor kept the size of the side panels.2024.1, Mac M1 Max, OS 12.5
Works here.
Perhaps check with support what is not working. I can't reproduce the problem. Sorry.

@Dr-Sassi Yes, Node Editor works fine. However, other windows, e.g., the 'Texture UV Editor', do not. Can you give a try with the Texture UV Editor? Either from the main menu 'Window' or by Shift-Double-LMC on a UV tag on an object.

Hi Greg,
If I get your wish correctly, you define something with standard Layout names. So when you return to UV Edit after being in a different layout, are all your changes gone? I would say that that is by design.
You need to change the appearance of a layout and then Save Layout as "Greg UV Edit", for example.
Is this working for you?

@Dr-Sassi Thanks. No, that isn't how I like to work. It's just a preference but I like to access some features with floating windows, not switching to a layout specific to the task. I have only two layouts I use, 'Startup' and my own with a Redshift Renderview window docked. (Of course I have the typical managers, Object, Layer, etc., docked where I like them in both of those layouts. However, other managers I just open as floating windows and close when I am done.
Thus, when I asked in this thread about the sizing of the UV manager it was as a floating window, not a docked window.
My reason is that I find I really like the often used managers, Object, Layer, Material, etc., managers to always be in exactly the same places and orientations. Keeping these updated across many saved layouts is time-consuming.
So then, my guess now is that when opening a manager as a floating window it opens at some default size, position, and orientation that is not controllable. Would this be a correct observation?
Thanks,

Hi Greg,
When I place an RS Renderview in the lower left corner, save that Layout as RS View, then move that RS Render View to the upper right corner, and save it as RS View 2, then it stays there.
BUT: not when I go from RS View directly to RS View 2, only when I use a different Layout in between. I change the RS view two by scaling the RS Render smaller.
Then, I save the layout, but I have to go to another layout for a moment, as the hardwired rule (AFAIK) seems to be that the last window appearance sticks, so I have to go out and then to the desired one with the same windows.
I have no idea how to overcome this.
Perhaps check with tech support. Admittedly, even if I like to have things differently, I need to stay in the standard layout as a trainer. Hence, this is not an area where I have a lot of muscle memory.
