Hey all, I'm new to C4D, transitioning over from Modo. I just purchased a new system with an RTX 4090 in hopes of getting going in C4D/Redshift. And I'm going through Greyscalegrollia tutorials. But I'm running into a very annoying issue. I'm using Redshift and I have IPR running as that is the workflow I'm used to in Modo. But I'm noticing that when I am moving a slider - like the Weight slider for Subsurface, the IPR updates no problem. But as soon as I let go of the slider, I can't click on it again for another second or two. After C4D is responsive again, I can click and drag, and then as soon as I let go again, same thing.

      Any ideas? thanks!

        Hi track-university,

Typically, most people I am aware of use the RS Render Viewer. Perhaps give it a shot.
If you click on the lower stripe of the RS Render View, the RS Render Preview opens and provides you with feedback about your scene.

I do not have this card here, but on an old "M1 Max" laptop, I can drag the slider from 24K "polygons" to over 6M "polygons" (According to the project information) with nearly no delay. It is a little bit slower than IPR for my 6K screen.

Perhaps set the Sampling in the Render Settings to a Threshold of 0.1 for the screen preview. (Wild guess here as I don't know your scene nor have any experience with this card).

On the other hand, have you tried to avoid the Subdivision Surface altogether and used the Tesselation option of the RS Object Tag, which allows for a much better optimization than the SDS?
I find it has nearly no latency.

Perhaps ask the tech support if that is normal for this card and your scene.

@Dr-Sassi thanks for your reply. I am using RS RenderView - with IPR turned on - and my scene is just a cube, light, camera. it couldn't be a simpler scene.

someone figured it out in the c4d forums. all i had to do was uncheck Auto Refresh Previews in Options in the RedShift Shader Graph and that pretty much fixed it. It's now 95% better.

              Hi track-university,

Thanks for telling me about your scene.

It is great that this option works for you; I would not have suggested it. Why? I had no Project file here (missing the information you set up), and it would have confused you if you used the newer node system.

Also, because that is only one option in the Xpresso Style Nodes Menu, the new Cinema 4D style Nodes misses that entry completely, for a good reason.

As the manual states, the XPresso style Nodes are not considered developed in the future.

If the materials preview is of no big concern to you, please explore the Preferences for Redshift.

Here, mainly for this question, are the Material Preview options. (Prefernces> Redshift> Userinterface> Material Previews.)

Two of the three options should also allow to work for you, while it might be nicer to choose between the two.

You can update the previews of the materials manually whenever there is time or need for it.

              I hope that will help.

As so often, I have asked Saul E. for his opinion about, just to provide the best possible answer.

              My best wishes.
