tension tag to create wrinkles
-
Hi Dr Sassi, hope you're well!
I'm trying to recreate this effect originally done in Houdini: https://www.instagram.com/p/CMPhWuBHmwO
I've done a test cloth simulation on a stretched-out cube and I just want to create some wrinkles where the mesh bends.
I thought the concept discussed in this tutorial might be a way to do it: https://youtu.be/v_Z6BWTeV48
However it's not really working as expected.
The tutorial uses deformers so Im guessing it might not work so well with a baked simulated mesh.
If not, is there another way to get good-looking folds on a simulation like the example?
I also tried the Relax smoothing method here but it didn't seem to work either: https://youtu.be/Po4it-lpJDA
Big thanks again!

Hi MaverickMongoose,
Thanks for the file. I'm sorry, but I have no time to watch videos today (I'm moving my studio today and tomorrow). However, I would like to help.
Here is your file back.
https://stcineversityprod02.blob.core.windows.net/$web/Cineversity_Forum_Support/2024_PROJECTS_DRS/20240506_CV4_2024_drs_24_CAtw_01-11.zipThe tension is not super more significant, so there is a need to "diffuse" it a little bit.
Typically a Tension works like the second file in the link (…11.c4d)
All the best

Shame it doesn't really work so well, I wonder if there's another way to do it, it looks really good in houdini.
Thanks for having a look, good luck with the move!

Thanks for the reply, Maverick Mongoose.
I believe the Cinema 4D version was primarily built for deep folds, like an arm in a 90º++ angle.
Perhaps I missed something (I will check again), or this needs a more definable progression option, like a "Spline Interface" inside of it.
I will try to get a request into the mix, but please send in your needs for the "tool" to "Share Your Idea."
https://www.maxon.net/en/support-centerThanks for considering.
Cheers

No worries, I'll make the request now, thanks though!

Thank you very much, MaverickMongoose,
Every entry ("Share Your Idea") helps to push new features.
I made a feature request to extend the "Amount" parameter with a Spline Interface, which should allow for a more adaptive (progressive or softer) effect.
I hope that helps.
My best wishes
