Footprint puddle ripple animation
-
Hello,
I am trying to figure out the best way to create a bespoke ripple in a footprint shaped puddle. The ripple is caused by an impact elsewhere in the scene, rather than a droplet of water, so the ripple needs to come from the edge of the footprint.
I have tried a few options, including using formulas and deformers with different fields.
I will continue to try different options, but advice and what everyone thinks are the best practices for this would be great to hear.

Hi tie-version,
Please have a look here:

I have used a dummy shape for the footprint. The Linear Field can be used with a Spline curve, and this Spline curve can be based on a formula. Right-mouse-click (RMC) into the Spline field and "Spline Presets> Custom."
Use this formula, and after that, you might see a lot of huge values. Select all points on the Spline Curve and RMC - Point Types> EaseEase.
When it is elsewhere in the scene, this example points towards it. Any "shockwave" would have a starting point and expand from there. Perhaps if you have a different visual, then share a sketch. All the best

Thank you,
I am trying to recreate a Jurassic Park style ripple effect within a footprint. Any large shoe print should work as reference.
In Jurassic park, the Trex impact causes ripples to happen from the outside to the centre.I've tried to get this using collision deformers, with a curve. I am getting something that would work as a result of an object being dropped into a liquid. But nothing shockwave wise. I will try you method above.

I understand how the file above works, but how would I get it to ripple inwards based on a bespoke shape?

Thanks for the reply, tie-version,

The mask is smaller, so it can hide the ripple.
The Offset of the Spline Curve moves it then inwards. Is that working for your shape?
All the best
