Attempting a Lanyard Animation
-
I'm attempting to make this lanyard model dynamic. I'd like it to be able to blow in the wind and fall on the ground naturally. Preferably badge first.
Can I get some guidance on how to efficiently achieve this? There seems to be multiple approaches to this problem and its getting confusing.[Lanyard_2.c4d] error

Hi ASeifried,
The file shows an error and is not availalbe.
The c4D format can be directly attached to the forum (<1MB). Cloud services are limited for security reasons to Dropbox, Wetransfer, Google, Apple, and Adobe. Upload the file to them, uncompressed, and share here the full URL, no HTML wrapper, etc.
Thank you.
Here is a quick sketch, and cached, as discussion starter:

I'm happy to look into your file.

HI Dr. Sassi,
Thanks for getting back with me and for the sketch upload. I'm looking forward to checking it out once I return to the office.
In the meantime, here's the link to my file. Please let me know if this works.

Hi ASeifried,

@Dr-Sassi You should have permission to access the file as an editor now.

Hi ASeifried,
You mixed Bulled and Simulation dynamics. That will not work.
I got your file, but after hours, so far, I can't find a simple solution. It is easy to think it is just a Lanyard, but the complexity might be beyond what the system can solve easily. Your setup has a badge that is on a hook, with a rotational connection, while freely moving in a short fabric loop, that is then connected to a "Lock" and then connected to a longer Lanyard. Each part pulls on the other, except for the start and end of the chain; each follows its own dynamic, while being pulled on from two sides with multiple axes of motion.
Here is my current exploration. Again, not happy with my results. Cloth stretches, hence I started with Rope first.
https://projectfiles.maxon.net/Cineversity_Forum_Support/2025_PROJECTS_DRS/20250916_CV4_2026_drs_25_SIlb_01.zipI will explore some workarounds now.
Cheers

@Dr-Sassi Hi Dr. Sassi,
Thanks for digging into this mess of a project. I've been wracking my brain on it as well. I find tutorials here and there, but the solutions don't quite fit the issue.
I did make some progress and got the dynamics working on the swivel. I'm not really sure if that will help our situation much, but its something.
Again, thank you for taking the time to help solve this issue. Worst case scenario- I can simplify the lanyard.
Would you have any ideas why each time I try using the rope tag it keeps falling through the floor no matter what the set up?
Thanks,
Andy

Hi Andy
Thank you very much for your sharing.
The most difficult part for me -so far- is the short connection between the Swivel Hook and the Snap-Lock. I checked Cloth and Soft Body while placing them in one exploration, even a Spring between them to avoid stretching.
There is always that feeling that I miss something, like caching the heaviest part (snap-lock) and letting the other part follow.
Thanks for your patience, while the impression is "It is just a simple lanyard", it might feel like it should be a too it in simulation and done. So far, only a few combined setups have had that complexity here in the forum in the past two decades.
I have not given up.
I know that Noseman and I have bounced ideas in the past, and he is excellent! Perhaps submit the question also to him, for our tomorrow's Ask The Trainer Show:
