I have a Redshift Cache folder in my home folder which is growing and growing.
Can I safely delete this folder because it is eating my harddrive?

        Hi Dutchbird,

Please have a look here (scroll down to cache)
        https://help.maxon.net/c4d/2023/en-us/Default.htm#REDSHIFT/html/Redshift+Preferences.html?TocPath=Configuration%257CPreferences%257CRenderer%257C_____1

If your projects are done, three is no concern. If you have some tweaks on projects to do, an empty cache would require Redshift to optimize the textures again. In short, the only danger you run into is that previous projects might start slowly.

Of course, don't do that while rendering.

@Dr-Sassi alright thanks. So I can safely delete the 200 Gb folder to get some more space. 😂

            Yes, Dutchbird,

I assume your projects are saved with all the files you had originally.
In this way the cache was just the optimization.

I have the same feeling always when I delete things. But for example, I got already a muscle memory to the Adobe cache delete procedure.

            My best wishes

@Dr-Sassi When I archive my projects I always delete the “backup” and “illum” folders, saves a lot of space.

                Yes, Dutchbird.

Since processing time becomes faster, I can see that as an advantage. But also, drives have gotten to $20 per TB, and even running the standard Project file/BU/BU (three places in distance to each other) is not a problem anymore, money-wise; keeping the drives alive, as they are degrading over time is. Another point would be whether future app versions can read the cache files anyway? I keep my old laptops here to have things available, like some old Quicktime codecs (e.g., Sorenson movies would be lost otherwise, as I noticed a while ago).

                All the best
