UV problem with exported obj file
-
Hi,
Exporting a mesh to an OBJ file (inorder to send to mixamo) and when I import it back (with or without sending to mixamo), UV gets all broken. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

Hi education-common,
I need the project file to see what happens.
As usual, images do not tell me a lot. Hence, we have them only very small here; they are secondary.
Images always lead to extra questions. Like this one.
Have you loaded the obj that you exported into a New Cinema 4D file? To be clear, it is not the Mixamo file; the fresh obj directly from Cinema 4D.
Another question would be, have you checked the geometry inside Cinema 4D—(Attribute Manager> Mode> Modeling> Mesh Checking)?
Is that working when you delete the "new" UV tag and drag the Old UV tag on it?
Before I go on and on, those are the questions I like to avoid here and check them for you. So you get a single answer and save some time.
All the best
My best wishes

@Dr-Sassi Thanks for your reply. I am getting an error trying to upload the c4d file (file size 1849kb), not sure if it uploaded or not.

Hi education-common,
I can't get this file. Yes, over 1MB is often the problem. Sorry that it causes extra work.
Here is my private Dropbox option to upload a file. I will leave it here for a few hours.

If you have a cloud service from Dropbox, Apple, Adobe, Google, or Wetransfer. Any other options, I haven't tested for security, and I will not touch)

Thanks for the file; I had the C4D file in mind, education-common.
Would you mind uploading the project file? I leave the upload-link for the time being.
All the problems, so far I can tell, are based on N-Gons.

Sorry I thought I uploaded the c4D file.
I uploaded now. -
Thanks again, education-common!
I have fixed the N-Gons (Mesh> N-Gons>Remove N-Gons)
Then, I copied the whole character and placed it into a new Project file, just in case.
I used FBX as file format, while obj should work fine. (I tested a round trip with obj as well.)
I have shared the fixed FBX export, the FBX return from Mixamo, and the imported Mixamo file.
The Joint Weight Tag needs some attention, but how the area of the chest close to the "arms" should work is your art direction.

You eventually need to replace the RS materials with the original ones based on which render engine you like. Let me know if there is any problem.
My best wishes for the project.
