New Rigid Body Problems
-
Hi Dr Sassi,
I'm still working on my vegetable chopping scene from last week, I've got it on a conveyor belt now where its chopped and the slices land on another conveyor belt.
Im using the fracture method you suggested last time with a mograph selection tag with a linear field which is driving the slicing.
To push the vegetable along Im using a plain effector also with a field (to stop it pushing along after being chopped).
It seems to work as expected at the beginning, the slices chop and fall onto the second conveyor. But a few frames later the dynamics seem to freeze and the slices start pilling up and acting very stragely.
The plain effector also seems slow to deactivate.
Any idea what the problem might be? Priorities maybe? Or is it maybe another bug in R2024?
Here's the project: https://we.tl/t-KTjWdLN9jl
Thanks again!

Hi MaverickMongoose,
Thanks for the file!
The following lines are my "sorry" for the messy "suggestions," as I believe you might have asked for a pure parameter suggestion in the Simulation framework. Noseman would say this system is under construction; it gets better.
As an engineer, I would say this setup would, in reality, "eat" a lot of product, as the two conveyor belts create a little bit of a trap. So, I introduced a few helpers.
As an artist, I am only interested in how it looks. So I mess around until I believe there is a knife cutting at high speed through it and moving the pieces slightly. Some more helpers, all in the Suggestion Group
Of course, as a scientist, I roll my eyes about the mess I have created, but who cares? Here is your file back

https://projectfiles.maxon.net/Cineversity_Forum_Support/2023_Clips_DRS/20231216_CV4_2024_drs_23_SIcp_01.mp4There is a project scale that I have lowered in the simulation. I saw that many parameters are adjusted, which makes me believe you are already familiar with most of them. I'm currently uncertain if I would use stickiness or friction for this setup if pure parameter adjustments are requested. Perhaps both in a mix, the stickiness is more present than uncut (fluid, cohesive forces) after cutting.
I saw that one slice penetrated another, perhaps more iterations… or my fault to left it on Auto-Shape.Enjoy your weekend

Thanks Sassi, you've definitely made an improvement!
It does seem a little bit unstable though and not quite as smooth as I hoped - as you say this might be a limitation in the new Rigid Body System.
I'm sure it will become more production ready soon, so I guess for now I might try the old Bullet Engine instead.
Thanks for giving it a try though!

Thanks for exploring my little suggestions, MaverickMongoose,
I wanted to test your setup with the simplest option, let's call it expectation management:
https://projectfiles.maxon.net/Cineversity_Forum_Support/2023_PROJECTS_DRS/20231217_CV4_2024_drs_23_SIcp_00.c4d.zipAs you can see, that works well and is predictable, allowing me to compare things.
So, I moved to reduce my added mess
https://projectfiles.maxon.net/Cineversity_Forum_Support/2023_PROJECTS_DRS/20231217_CV4_2024_drs_23_SIcp_11.c4d.zipThere are some areas where I need to pay more attention to it. But as I quoted my dear colleague, this system is in growth mode. It will get better.

P.S.: Here is the idealized setup with just simple cylinders (low res).

Wow that's much better! Thanks for giving it another try!
I also saw there's a new C4D update where Maxon addresses many of the issues with the new simulation engine, so I'm hoping that will help as well.
Thanks again Dr Sassi and all the best for the new year!

You're very welcome, MaverickMongoose,
Yes, I think things will get better, especially the simulation.
Thank you for the wishes, and I hope your 2024 will be fantastic.
Cheers
