I'm trying to have a texture drive the color of the fur on my creature but I can't get the fur to color it based on the surface location. I only get the color along the length of the hair. I've tried numerous suggestions from people running into the same problem and tried various tutorials but i just can't get it to work.
I'm using the standard cinema hairsystem in c4d 2025.1.3 and the principled hair material with redshift 2025.3.0
Could someone please point me in the right direction or better yet provide an example file?
      Thanks! Bart

I can get it to work with the old hair material but would really like to be able to use the principled hair.

            Hi Bart,

Fur, as far as I'm aware, isn't in the data Cinema 4D provides to Redshift. Here, the Hair option needs to be used instead.
I would suggest limiting the Segments of the "Guides" and "Hair", and setting Hair> Dynamics > Rigid after the Initial state is "recorded".

Since Hair works, it should be possible to get Fur working, but it needs more input. Please use the "Share Your Ideas" so that the need for that is more clearly seen. Thank you very much.

Example, (I'm sure you know how to set this up, as you wrote, but since I am writing in a forum)

I used Noise here to keep the file small.

Just for my future self or in case someone else is running into this aswell: the problem was i'm using a alembic to grow the hair on. If the alembic is made editable and the animation is therefor loaded by an alembic tag instead of the default alembic object it does work.

                Hi Bart,

                Thanks for the reply.

I can't confirm this limitation. I explored it with the current version, avoiding so to answer from memory.

                Please have a look here:

                .

Some processes don't like changing point amounts, so I checked this as well with v2026, just in case.

                This works for me here.

Perhaps your setup is different. I'm happy to take a look at it. Please use only Dropbox, WeTransfer, Google, Apple, or Adobe cloud services. Upload the non-compressed file and paste the URL here without an HTML wrapper. Sorry for the long text; it is all about security.
