Newbie Question: If one seeks the ultimately achievable realism in a render how 'bad' are non-planar polygons in a model?

How much effort should I put into a model to get rid of all non-planar polys?

    Thanks!
    Greg

      Hi Greg,

Most deformers will bring a polygon in that state. During render-time, it gets triangulated anyway, while the way that is determined will be based on how it is "folded", which means that it follows the non-planar state and takes it from there. Triangles are not that great because two triangles creating a rectangle are fixed in that matter. (Spin Edge can help here.)

Other polygon states need handling, such as Bad Polygons (Attribute Manager> Mode> Modeling> Mesh Checking).

      All the best
