If the setup only needs to have the change, why not use a PoseMorph, for example:

If more morphs are needed, this is doable with the PoseMorph.

Perhaps explore as well how much the Transparency> Dispersion (Abbe) might add to the effect based on an extra Surface (extra model or second render pass). Just a thought.

Of course, there is always the idea of using fake it or having a gradient in the scene that provides this as a reflection source.

Yes, it should be more straightforward, with a restriction and Weight Tag. However, some options for the Skin object differ from those of a "normal" deformer.
