What pretty much every Gerator does is generate all new content newly, and so does the Connect Generator. With that all things get pulled into a new object here. Without the Correction Deformer, that setup wouldn't work as I wanted. Without the complete setup, most questions are more general, and harder to answer, as they need to work "in general", meaning including all possible variations, with a more or less complex interaction of several things that is difficult to estimate.

The Correction Deformer can work with just the one Field moving along the "cube-zipper", but to ensure that the influence will not reach too deep, the other Field protects the other "half" of the plane. It is optional.

Let us start with the Banking.
If there is any chance that the points of a spline can produce a "plane-like orientation, then that plane defines the orientation of the Profile used.
In return, each point counts if a plane can be established at all.

Moving a single point in that case will change anything. Based on my experience teaching it, there is the most confusion, especially when the spline is not animated to show the effect.

Have a look at the end of the spline Left upper in the perspective view. Press play.

The profile orientation changes.

If there is no plane, meaning the points are all over the place, the banking option that relies on such a virtual plane can be shut off. Which often leads to a horrible result.

How that can be solved most of the time is done with Rails, who work like a target but along a spline in relation to the main path.

Parallel moves, ignores all of that and keeps the Profile in the same orientation along the path.

My suggestion is to mess with the settings of the two files, as I hope they provide some more clarity if the checkboxes of the Sweep are explored.

This is expected, as Ai (Illustrator) files are not supported by image files.

You have to export it from Illustrator in a pixel-based format. Vector formats are not supported for that use, so it needs to be converted to a raster-based image format.

The Quixel site shows that Cinema 4D is supported, but the plug-in 2.2 is already a few years old.

There are many ways; it always depends on what is given.
As mentioned, this is a technique I have shared for around two decades, often used for rollercoaster simulation (parks) or racetracks. With User Data and relative referencing, this tag can be used in many cases without even opening the XPresso editor. To reply to your script idea.

I'm unaware of a different way to get the data easier or faster into the Vertex Tag.

Perhaps the Freeze can store those better if they don't change. In the moment they are stored, the selections can be switched off.
You can check the specific processing time in the
Main Menu> Window> Object Profiler.

If you re-import the FBX to Cinema 4D into a new file (Merge) to see what was written out, is that the same you get in Unity?

Have you used the cogwheel to specify the export options?
The PLA folder must be on the same level as the FBX file.
